Play Therapy: Do you struggle with your child’s behaviour at home or at school?

Play Therapy: Do you struggle with your child’s behaviour at home or at school?

What is it? Play Therapy works to alleviate children’s behaviour and emotional difficulties through play. Play therapy gives children the opportunity to express and process emotions that they may not be able to express in other ways. Using children’s natural inclination to play, children can express their inner life and articulate concerns. ‘The Play Therapy Toolkit’ includes; sand tray therapy using symbols, puppets and art materials.

Research by PTUK suggests that 71% of the children referred to play therapy will show a positive change.

Who can benefit?Any child (aged 4-10) who may be struggling with emotional or behavioral needs at home or school.

What does it involve? Sessions are 1-1 once a week for 40 minutes and may last for 12 to 24 weeks. A rating scale * and a referral form are completed prior to therapy. This is reviewed after 6 weeks and again after 12 to 15 weeks.
